Front cover of CD-ROM, Leader Collection.
The Leader Collection CD-ROM comprises a selection of three thousand images taken by photographers working for the Chelsea, Mordialloc, Moorabbin and Sandringham Standard Newspapers during the period 1961-1966. The photographs cover a wide range of events of historical importance in the life of the City of Kingston and its preceding municipalities.
A chance conversation with the Managing Director of the Leader Newspapers revealed the existence of a treasure trove of photographic negatives used by the Standard Newspapers over two decades. The enthusiastic support of Susan Windmiller, a senior photographer at the Leader, lead to these negatives being transferred to the custody of the City of Kingston.
The City of Kingston appreciates the donation of the collection by the Leader Newspapers and financial assistance from the National Library of Australia and the Department of Communications and Information.
The Leader Collection CD-ROM received a commendation at the 2001 Victorian Government Community History Awards in the category of Best Audio-Visual/Multimedia.
